Office of Healthy Schools

The Office of Healthy Schools is a division of the Mississippi Department of Education whose responsibility it is to provide programming that promotes health and wellness in schools across the state.  Through strategies, programs, services and initiatives that are coordinated by the Office of Healthy Schools, the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) continues to focus on and promote the undeniable connection between healthy students and schools and academic achievement.

A healthy school is a vital part of a healthy community, and successful collaboration is required from school administrators, staff, students, parents and the community. The Office of Healthy Schools is committed and prepared to offer technical assistance and services to enable schools and communities to create effective school health Programs based on the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Health and Learning Model developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to encourage life-long healthful behaviors that contribute to healthy and productive citizens.
