School-Based Prevention Education and Surveillance

  • Program activities are expected to reinforce efforts to reduce teen pregnancy rates, due to the shared risk factors for, and intervention activities to address, HIV infection, other STD, and teen pregnancy. 
  • Assist with building the capacity of districts and schools to effectively contribute to the reduction of HIV infection and other STD among adolescents.
  • Implement programs and activities that will aid in the reduction of disparities in HIV infection and other STD experienced by specific adolescent sub-populations.
  • Conduct school-based surveillance through YRBS and Profiles implementation.

  • Coordinate and administer the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). This survey is a youth self reported survey conducted in even numbered years. YRBS monitors six types of health-risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth.
  • Coordinate and administer the School Health Profiles. This is a school principal and lead health education teacher survey that is conducted biannually and is a system of surveys assessing school health policies and practices in states.
  • Assist with School-Based Prevention Education activities.

  • Administer School Based Administrative Claiming program (SBAC)
  • Provide administrative and programmatic assistance for SBAC program
  • Act as liaison between participating SBAC school districts and the Division of Medicaid (DOM)

  • Serve as the liaison for student health locally, statewide and nationally

  • Provide technical assistance to school district nurses for ScreenPlus and Nurse Database applications

Latoya Robinson, Accounting Specialist

  • Evaluates accounting policies and procedures for the Office of Healthy Schools' federal programs

  • Provides end user training for School Based Administrative Claiming school districts

  • Produces various reports, functional documentation, worksheets, and other written materials for the Office of Healthy Schools federal programs

  • Monitors and/or performs accounting functions and transactions within the Magic system
